Lightspeed error LSI001 — "Lightspeed API error" (Retail and X-Series)

Created by Emily Campbell, Modified on Mon, 3 Aug at 10:29 AM by Emily Campbell

One code, two integrations. LSI001 is raised by both Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) and Lightspeed X (X-Series). What you do next depends on which one you use — and, for Lightspeed X, on the reason shown alongside it.

What this error means

LSI001 is the general, catch-all code for a call between BRM and Lightspeed that Lightspeed didn't accept. On the Lightspeed X sale-transfer path it now comes with a reason; elsewhere it stays generic.

Where you'll see it

  • As a message at the moment you act — for a Lightspeed X transfer this begins "Failed to transfer to Lightspeed X" when we have no more detail, or names the reason when we do.
  • On the booking's Events tab, as a warning recording the attempt and the reason. The Events entry is the more useful of the two, because it stays on the booking — if a colleague reports a failed transfer after the fact, that's where to look.

Lightspeed Retail (R-Series)

Here the code stays generic: a temporary Lightspeed problem, a connection issue, or a configuration problem Lightspeed didn't classify. The message alone doesn't pinpoint the cause.

  1. Wait a moment and retry — if it was a temporary Lightspeed blip, it will clear.
  2. If it keeps happening, note when it occurs (which reservation, which action) and contact support so we can check the event log.

Lightspeed X (X-Series): sending a sale

Since July 2026 a failed transfer says why. The reasons you may see, and what each one asks you to do:

  • Lightspeed X needs reconnecting / Lightspeed X would not renew our access — the connection has expired or been withdrawn. Reconnect under Settings › Integrations › Lightspeed X, then send the sale again. Retrying before reconnecting won't help.
  • This store is not connected to Lightspeed X — the integration was never set up, or has been disconnected. Connect it in the same place.
  • The Lightspeed X sale linked to this reservation no longer exists — this booking was sent before and the sale it created has since been deleted in Lightspeed. Check in Lightspeed whether it was completed or voided before sending a replacement, so the customer isn't charged twice.
  • Lightspeed X could not find part of this sale — something the sale refers to is missing at the Lightspeed end. Check the register, the customer record and the products are still set up and active in Lightspeed.
  • Lightspeed X rejected the request — Lightspeed refused the sale as sent. If it repeats on the same booking, send it to us.
  • No Lightspeed X user is available to record the sale against — check the users on your Lightspeed account.
  • The customer on this reservation could not be loaded — the sale couldn't be built, so nothing was sent.
  • This reservation could not be found / This reservation has no reference — there was nothing to transfer.

Three of those — not connected, reservation not found, and reservation has no reference — happen before anything is sent, so they appear as a message only, with nothing recorded on the Events tab.

You won't see Lightspeed's own words. We deliberately don't repeat Lightspeed's response: the transfer looks up and creates customers, so that response can contain a customer's name, email or phone number. What you get instead is our wording for the same failure.

Before you send a sale again

Check Lightspeed first. A failed transfer usually means no sale was created — but not always. The sale is created in Lightspeed before the link back to the booking is saved, so a failure between those two points can leave a real sale in Lightspeed that BRM doesn't know about. Look for it on your register before resending, so you don't create it twice.

Still stuck?

Contact support if the transfer still fails after reconnecting, if the message doesn't match anything above, or if a sale appears in Lightspeed but BRM still reports the transfer as failed. Send us:

  • The booking reference.
  • The reason shown on the Events tab, copied in full.
  • Your Lightspeed store name or web address.
  • Whether the sale shows up in Lightspeed despite the failure.
