Booking error ASS002 — "Unable to find generic asset" (item not linked to a Product Line)

What this error means

Every item on a booking has to be linked to a Product Line — the thing that says what was booked. ASS002 means BRM went looking for the Product Line behind one of the items on a booking and couldn't find it. Internally BRM calls a Product Line a "generic asset", which is why the message uses that wording.

You will usually see it as:

Unable to find generic asset with id : -1 (ass002)

It typically appears when you try to print or download a booking form, because that is the point at which BRM has to write out the name of every item on the booking.

Why it happens

An id of -1 is the giveaway. It isn't a real Product Line — it's a placeholder. It means the item on the booking is pointing at nothing at all, rather than at the wrong thing.

This happens on bookings created with the Clone function, where at least one line had not yet been allocated to a specific bike or item. Cloning copies that line across but leaves the placeholder behind instead of the real Product Line. The booking looks completely normal on screen — the problem only shows itself when you print, because that's the first time BRM needs the item's name.

This is not a mistake in your setup and there is nothing wrong with the Product Line itself.

How to fix it

  1. Open the affected booking and look at its items.
  2. Allocate a specific bike or item to any line that doesn't have one yet. Allocating replaces the placeholder with the real Product Line, which is normally enough to let the booking form print.
  3. Try printing the booking form again.
  4. If you need the booking form urgently and it still won't print, contact support — we can send you a copy while the booking is repaired.

Avoiding it

If you clone bookings regularly, allocate the items on the new booking before printing anything. Building the booking directly rather than cloning also avoids it.

Still stuck?

Contact support with the booking reference and the full error message, and let us know whether the booking was created using Clone.
